August Newsletter 2019

Posted: July 30th, 2019 @ 11:18am

Dear Military Vehicle Enthusiast:                                                                                                               July 30, 2019

Early this month, our plans for building the garage at the VFW Post were conditionally approved by the building commission. However, they did not approve our Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day celebrations including firing blank ammunition and driving our vehicles in the woods. They have severely restricted our use of the VFW property. I want to thank everybody who showed up in support of our project: James Boykin, Harry Jaeger, Warren Newsome, Barry Newland, Dabney and Cathy Cowger, and Mary Maguire. Only two people spoke against it and we had so many speaking in favor of it they had to cut off the debate. The issue will come before the Hanover Board of Supervisors Wednesday, August 28 at 7 p.m. I would love to see a big turn out and it would be great if we could bring a couple of Jeeps or a Mule.

We are still finalizing plans for the York, Pennsylvania vehicle preservation convention. Fritz, Dabney, and I are going for sure. Please let me know if you are interested in attending.

I am planning on taking the M-20 to Graves Mountain Lodge at the end of this month. The 13th of September is the beginning of the Somerset Pasture Party. This is going to be a great event. The promoters are going to allow us to drive vehicles in and during the event. This is the way it used to be at Field Days of the Past and many old members remember how much fun that was. I know this is a lot of activity at the end of the summer, but I am sure it will be worth the effort. We are negotiating with Robin Roberts to get John Billeter’s T-34 Russian tank to Somerset. We may even find a few cars to crush.

The club has bought a floor and a left rear panel for the 1942 Ford Script Jeep. Darrel Conwell is doing the body work. We will be selling this vehicle at any time a buyer wants to take over the cost. Sell price today is $6000. It still needs engine and transmission work.
