October Newsletter 2020

Posted: October 5th, 2020 @ 5:30pm

Dear Military Vehicle Enthusiasts:                                                                           October 5, 2020

Saturday night was one of the most unique events to which we have ever been invited: A Wedding Exit Vehicle. We drove the M-20 from the VFW garage on Cedar Lane south on Route 1 to downtown Richmond. We were to deliver the bride and groom from the Commonwealth Club to their honeymoon hotel in the M-20. They gave us a generous donation, but the most important part of the entire event was that we actually drove the M-20 for a 60 mile round trip. Because the event was held late in the evening and terminated downtown, we decided not to use a trailer. We did take my wrecker for a plan B just in case something happened. All the vehicles seemed to running better by the end of the evening. I have said frequently before that the best way to preserve these vehicles is to drive them and keep fresh fuel running through the carburetors. I try to drive my 4 trucks, 2 Jeeps, and Mule weekly. I have put some pictures on Facebook and our website under “News” (www.VAMVA.org).

Our next big event will be Beaverdam Heritage Day, Saturday, October 10. Form up at the American Legion Post 90 at 10 am. There will be a vehicle show, so put on your best shine.

Our new application for site plan approval and building permit deadline is October 8. I have been in touch with two architectural firms and we are working feverishly to get all the drawings demanded by the county current and submitted.

Due to the Corona Virus, we have a very short calendar. I am hopeful that the county supervisors will allow us to the celebrate Veterans Day at the post once again. They meet late in October so we will not have a lot of time to prepare an event. Given the circumstances, I think we had a very good year. See you soon!
