Membership Meeting

Posted: January 17th, 2021 @ 2:05pm

 Dear Military Vehicle Enthusiast:

This year our annual meeting will be at Anna’s Restaurant in Mechanicsville starting at 6:00 pm on Saturday, January 23, 2021. Happy hour will be from 6-7 and food will be served around 7:00 pm. The meal will be covered by the club and adult beverages will be at your expense.

Anna’s Restaurant Location:

7017 Mechanicsville Turnpike

Mechanicsville, VA 23111

Paid up members have already received their invitations in the mail and notification of dues. If you would like to join this organization, you may pay your dues at this meeting or mail $25 to Richard Crane (17096 Beaver Dam Road Beaverdam, VA 23015).

This has been a unique year in a lot of ways. Unfortunately, we have not been able to put on as many displays as we usually do or participate in as many events. However, we have had some unique opportunities.

This year we were requested to drive a wedding escape vehicle. Fritz Eley, Richard Crane, Warren Newsome, and myself drove in caravan the M-20 from the VFW Post to downtown Richmond. The event was at night so I had to fabricate a light system for the M-20. Warren rode shotgun and we were accompanied Fritz Eley in his M-151 police Jeep and Richard in his wrecker. The wedding guests were thrilled as the bride and groom climbed aboard the M-20 supporting the .50 caliber machine gun in downtown Richmond while the Richmond police department grinned and waved. Ironically this was the week following the Richmond riots and when contacted by the Richmond Police Department, they were relieved to know that it was only the VAMVA.

Fritz Eley and I were also requested to bring a truck to Fort Eustace for their Christmas parade, which we happily supplied a M-151 Jeep and a military 2 ½ ton truck. We were treated well by the base and enjoyed all of the children coming out to see Santa.

I wish to thank all of those that have provided us with help during my first year as president. I hope that next year is a more productive year for the club.

Dabney Cowger

President
